Gearing Up For Band
There are many items that must be purchased by each new band student coming into the program. These are a part
of the uniform and therefore are mandatory for each student. What's nice, is that there is no need to go running around town
to get these things, because all of them are sold right in the band hall, and at the best possible prices. You can write one
check for all your uniform-related needs. The checks should be made out to the MHS Band Boosters. There is no tax charged
and you can get everything all at once. Here is a list of those items that you will need:
Marching Shoes - Black, lace-up shoes. These
will usually last a few years, depending, of course on how quickly your student's foot grows! These are specially made for
the kind of step that Magnolia uses in their marching.
Black Marching Gloves All members,
except percussion, must wear black gloves with their uniform. These are often replaced because for some reason, these
nearly always get misplaced!
Band T- Shirt This is a new white
t-shirt with MHS BAND logo printed in maroon on the front. These will be worn underneath the
band uniform as well as for pep rallies or other outings. Two shirts are included with the Marching fees
for band and one is included for guard. Price of additional shirts: $6 with initial
fall order
Munchie Money This is a mandatory charge that covers all water and snacks provided at the 6 away football
games and all contests and UIL performances, as well as an occassional meal at away performances. It is included in the Marching
Fee.

OPTIONAL ITEMS FOR SALE:
MHS BAND or GUARD Hooded sweatshirt
These are maroon hooded sweatshirts with MHS BAND or MHS GUARD printed in white on front.
BAND or GUARD Duffle Bag
These are tri-colored (maroon, white and black) duffle bags with the MHS Band logo and your child's
name printed in white. These bags are great for the kids to carry their change of clothes/shoes in on game day.
SHOW SHIRTS
Every year we design a t-shirt that represents that season's marching show.
OTHER FEES and SERVICES:
Friday Meal Deals The Friday Meal Deal is an OPTIONAL service that provides meals for the students before each of the 4 home
games. The cost is $28 and includes all home games. The deadline to sign up is Monday, August 25. Click
on "Friday Meal Deals" on the left to sign up.
Note: Meals for the 6 away games and 4 contests during
football season are a separate package. These ten meals are included in your Band Marching fee.
Accompianist Fees For those individuals
that go to solo and ensemble contests, you will need to pay an accompianist. It's usually about $30 - $40, which includes
a couple of rehearsals and the actual contest performance. If your student moves on to state, it may be more.
Patches At each competition,
marching and otherwise, there are usually patches for sale. The kids love to get these and put them on their letter jacket.
Patches are usually around $5 a piece. It's a good idea to purchase them yourself if you go to the contest because the
kids don't always get the opportunity to make it to the concession area, depending on the timing of their schedule.
Video Tapes and DVDs You will have a chance
to purchase video tapes of most marching competitions. These run around $20 per tape, with some variations.
